Scribe and compensatory time

Scribe/assistive technology is provided if desired to candidates with blindness, both-arms locomotor disability (BA) or cerebral palsy; other PwBD categories, and candidates with less than 40% disability who have difficulty writing, need a medical certificate (Annexure-I / Annexure-IA). It must be opted for in the online application. At Admission Certificate time you choose either your own scribe (who must have SSC OTR and Aadhaar authentication) or a scribe/assistive technology provided by the Commission; if your own scribe does not turn up, the Commission provides one. Compensatory time is 20 minutes per hour, including for eligible candidates who don't use a scribe. Visually handicapped candidates may complete Aadhaar verification by OTP instead of face authentication. Before applying for DEO, check the notification's post-wise disability-suitability table against your benchmark disability category.

Step by step: what to do now

SCRIBE ELIGIBILITY & RULES (Extracted from Official SSC CHSL 2026 Notice, Para 7): 1. Who gets a scribe: Blindness, locomotor disability (both arms, BA) and cerebral palsy — on request. Other PwBD categories — with a certificate of writing limitation (Annexure-I). Less than 40% disability with difficulty in writing — with Annexure-IA certificate. 2. Opt in early: Scribe/assistive technology is provided only if opted for in the online application form. 3. Own or Commission scribe: When generating the Admission Certificate, choose your own scribe (enter the scribe's OTR number and the OTP sent to the scribe) or a scribe/assistive technology provided by the Commission. If your own scribe fails to turn up, the Commission provides one. 4. Qualification Limit: Own scribe's qualification must be one step below the candidate's. 5. Restrictions: Own scribe must have SSC OTR with Aadhaar authentication, may assist only one candidate, may not be a candidate in the same exam, and must not be on SSC's debarred list. Scribe details go on Annexure-II (or IIA) with a photocopy of the scribe's ID signed by both. 6. Extra Time: 20 minutes per hour of examination for scribe users, and also for eligible candidates who choose not to use a scribe. 7. Magnifying glass: One-eyed and partially blind candidates who can read the normal paper with a magnifying glass may bring their own, but are then not entitled to a scribe. 8. Typing test: Passage dictators are provided for VH candidates who opted for a scribe. 9. Fee: PwBD candidates are exempt from the SSC application fee.
