Step by step: what to do now
SCRIBE ELIGIBILITY & RULES (Extracted from Official NICL AO 2026-27 Advertisement, Section 7C):
1. Scribe Source: The candidate arranges their own scribe at their own cost.
2. Declare Early: Indicate the need for a scribe in the online application form; any later request may not be entertained.
3. Academic Stream: Generalist candidates may use a scribe from any academic stream. Specialist candidates must use a scribe from an academic stream different to their specialist stream.
4. Non-Candidate Rule: The scribe must not be a candidate for the same examination, including in a different session; if detected, both candidatures are cancelled.
5. Non-Employee Rule: The scribe must not be a current employee of National Insurance Co. Ltd.
6. One Scribe, One Candidate: The same scribe cannot be used by more than one candidate.
7. Undertaking: Candidate and scribe both give an undertaking that the scribe meets the criteria; deliberate wrong information can debar both.
8. Medical Necessity: The candidate must fully satisfy the Company that a scribe was necessary because of a physical limitation to write, including writing speed.
9. Extra Time: 20 minutes per hour for scribe users — only for candidates registered for compensatory time at online registration; it is system-based and cannot be granted afterwards.
10. Magnified Font (VI): Visually Impaired candidates (40%+ disability) may view the test in magnified font, with 20 minutes per hour compensatory time.
11. Locomotor (category c): 20 minutes per hour where the dominant (writing) extremity is affected (minimum 40% impairment).
12. Category d (autism, intellectual disability, SLD, mental illness, above 40%): 20 minutes per hour, with or without a scribe.
13. Less than 40% disability with difficulty in writing: scribe and/or compensatory time only with the Appendix-I certificate from a Government healthcare institution; the scribe's qualification must be one step below the candidate's, and own-scribe details go on Appendix-II.
